William "Bill" Elbert Stapleton Jr longtime resident of Coeburn, Virginia, made his last patrol on Saturday, April 08, 2023, at the age of 66.

He is survived by his father William Elbert Stapleton Sr; Mother Edith Marie Stapleton; Wife Christine
Robin Stapleton; Brothers Larry Wayne Stapleton, Kevin Scott Stapleton, Mark Douglas Stapleton, and Scott Brooks; Sister- in- law Amy Marie; Children Bridget and Brian Crawford, Amber and Logan Hileman, Kelly and Thomas Manning, Catherine, and Charles Ellis; Numerous Grandchildren and surrounding family.

He was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975 serving as
Security Police until his enlistment ended in 1979. Bill felt the call to justice by serving the City of
Baltimore as a Police Officer until the mid-1980's where he made his way to Coeburn, Virginia. Bill
served a life of justice holding many positions in the Sheriff's Office, Coeburn Police, and Appalachia
Police including Road Deputy, Road Officer, Bailiff, Investigator and Lieutenant until his retirement in
2019. Bill unable to stay still had joined the American Legion where Bill became the Finance Officer and
the right hand of the Commander. Bill went out of his way to take care of veterans and helping homeless
veterans. Bill was also a Life member of the Disabled American Veterans Association.

He will now serve eternity apart of God's finest.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 12, 2023, 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6 ^th Street NW Coeburn, VA. Funeral Service will be held 11 A.M. Thursday, April 13, 2023, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Marty Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Park Castlewood, VA. with Military Honors by the U.S. Air Force Honors Team and Local VFW and American Legion members.
