Virginia Mae Vance, 91, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. She was born and raised in Dickenson County, Virginia. She lovingly served as a schoolteacher in Dickenson and Wise Counties and primarily in Coeburn, Virginia for over 20 years. She was so kind, uplifting, and loved people fiercely whether in the classroom, working in church, or in her daily life. She was a blessing to every life she touched. To know her was to love her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Walter Preston Vance; her parents, Nelson White Kaylor and Mary Jane Kaylor; four sisters, Melvina Davis, Alma Frances Ring, Mildred Marie Skeens, Mary Sue Mullins and two brothers, Robert Lee Kaylor and William Franklin Kaylor.
Surviving are her children, David (Herlin) Vance of Coeburn, Virginia, Kathy (Mack) Gilliam of Snowflake, Virginia, and Walter (Becky) Vance of Roanoke, Virginia; six grandchildren she loved dearly, Nelson Vance, Walter Charles Vance, Jennifer Hill, Sara Baranauskas, Spencer Smith, and Tanner Vance; 9 great-grandchildren, Mabel, Annabelle, Hazel, Naomi, Henry, Emmeline, Amelia, Maude, and Bennett; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 26, 2024, 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn. Funeral Service will follow at 7 P.M. in funeral home chapel with Pastor Danny Smith officiating. Graveside Service will be conducted 11 A.M. Monday, May 27, 2024, in Temple Hill Memorial Park Castlewood, Virginia. The family and friends will meet at 10 A.M. Monday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
