Obituary

NORTON, VA                                                                       AUGUST 5, 2026

Vidal Lamont Ellis, 54, of Norton, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 3, 2026.

He is survived by his loving parents, Brenda Ellis, Jimmy Ellis, and his stepmother, Cynthia Ellis. He also leaves behind his beloved children, Malik Miles, Vallen Ellis, Aleigha Miles, Zoe Ellis, Essence Henderson, and Tessa Parsons; his cherished grandchildren; his brother, James Ellis; his sister, Vadella Ellis-Pope; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure his memory.

Vidal embraced life with enthusiasm and never met a stranger. A proud graduate of John I. Burton High School, Class of 1990, he excelled on the basketball court and helped lead his team to the Virginia State Championships for two consecutive years. After high school, he continued his education by attending Virginia Intermont College and Clinch Valley College, further pursuing his goals and preparing for the future.

Vidal went on to build a respected career as a barber, a profession that perfectly matched his outgoing personality and genuine love for people. His barber chair became much more than a place for a haircut—it became a place where friendships were formed, stories were shared, and laughter was abundant. He had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome, and many who came to him as customers left as lifelong friends.

Above all else, Vidal loved his family. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends brought him his greatest happiness. He treasured every opportunity to reminisce about life's special moments, often beginning conversations with his familiar phrase, "Do you remember when...?" Those words never failed to bring smiles, laughter, and cherished memories to those around him.

Vidal was also known for his sharp sense of style, his passion for cooking, and his deep appreciation for music. Whether listening to classic rap or uplifting gospel music, he found joy, comfort, and inspiration in every song. Music reflected both his vibrant personality and his faith, and he loved sharing his favorite songs with family and friends.

Those who knew Vidal will remember his warm smile, generous heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering ability to bring people together. His kindness, love of family, and genuine friendship touched countless lives and left an unforgettable impact on everyone blessed to know him.

Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, compassion, laughter, and togetherness will live on through the lives he touched and the memories that will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. Whenever family and friends gather to laugh, share a meal, listen to music, or reminisce about the good old days, Vidal's spirit will be there, reminding us all with a smile, "Do you remember when...?"
