Thelma Jean Church, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

She was of the Pentecostal Faith and attended the Bethesda Church of God in Big Stone Gap, VA.

She loved God, family and watching the grandbabies playing in the yard. She loved a house full of company and her favorite game was Chinese checkers. When you went to visit, she would either be reading her bible, crocheting a blanket for someone, or making bead necklaces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Church; parents, Glenn and Osha Hughes Gilliam; and brother, Bufford Gilliam.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan Robinette and husband Lee Roy; two sons, Clayton Timothy Church and Martin Church and wife Naomi; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Boggs and Nancy Bennett; two brothers, Roger Gilliam and wife Pauline and J.D. Gilliam and wife Emma; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Thelma Jean Church will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Donnie Pickett, Pastor Kevin Wampler and Evangelist Lee Roy Robinette officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 10, 2024 in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, Virginia. Family and friends will meet at 12:30 P.M.
