Teresa Luther Deel, age 83, passed away on September 21, 2026.

Known affectionately to her family, friends, and Tacoma natives as "Tressie," Teresa was a devoted wife, mother, and Mamaw. Those were the roles she treasured most in life, and she shared a unique, special relationship with each and every member of her family. She found true peace being at the beach, watching and listening to the waves, and simply enjoying time spent surrounded by her loved ones.

Teresa was a dedicated nurse for more than 50 years. She began her career in healthcare working as a cook at St. Mary’s Hospital, then served as an aide at Park Avenue Hospital. Driven to advance her calling, she went on to earn her LPN, working in area hospitals and home health. At the age of 50, she returned to school to achieve her dream of becoming an RN. She worked for many years as a dialysis nurse and ultimately concluded her long, impactful career at the Duffield Regional Jail.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Brummitt Luther and Daniel Boone Luther; her four brothers, Ursley Luther (Atlantic Beach, NC), Andy Luther, Kenneth Luther, and Carnel Luther (all of Ashtabula, OH); her three sisters, Eve Hiltabittle, Emma Dodge, and Velmae Luther (all of Ashtabula, OH); and her daughter, Carolyn Bond (Coeburn, VA).

She is survived by her husband of nearly 68 years, Fred Deel Sr.; her daughter, Lisa Odle; and her son, Fred (Mona) Deel Jr., all of Coeburn, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica Clark and her husband Nathan (Bristol, TN), Jason Deel and his wife DiAnna (Dryden, VA), Josh Bond and his wife Ashley (St. Paul, VA), Seth and Skyler Boles (Coeburn, VA), and Kristil Adkins (Clintwood, VA); her great-grandchildren, Hannah Ratliff (Blountville, TN), Hadley, Hunter, and Tanner Bond (St. Paul, VA), Braylyn and Baylor Boles (Coeburn, VA), and Havan, Kimberlyn, Collin, and Bryson Moore (Dryden, VA); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends left to mourn her passing.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 24, 2026, 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, Virginia. Funeral Services will follow in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. R.L. Crawford and Jane Crawford officiating.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, September 25, 2026, in the Laurel Grove Cemetery Norton, Virginia.
