Susan Marie Sturgill, 40, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

Susan graduated J.J. Kelly High School in 2000. There she was a member of the softball team, playing center field, a member of the Junior Varsity cheerleading team and the Dance Team. She was an all around natural athlete and dancer. After graduating high school Susan continued her education studying radiologic technology at Southwest Virginia Community College, in Richlands VA, graduating in 2008. A year later she graduated from the Sonography (ultrasound) program at Chattanooga State Community College. In 2014 she became a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with an abdomen specialty. She then fell in love with vascular sonography and studied to become a Registered Vascular Technologist in 2019. She was employed throughout Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia.

Susan thrived in her career both academically and emotionally to provide careful and thoughtful care to all her patients.

With all of Susan's accomplishments, she was most proud of being a mother and a wife. She married her high school sweetheart, Rufus Ray Sturgill II, then went on to have three beautiful children. Some of her happiest moments involved watching her kids practice or play on their sports teams. She was always their biggest fan.

She was a wife, mother and best friend that can never be replaced. She was always wise beyond her years, a little force to be reckoned with and had an infectious smile that could light up any room while being the most fun loving person. She had the kindest, most loving heart and always thought of others. To know her was to love her.

She is preceded in death by her father, Eric Kevin Fisher.

She is survived by her husband, Rufus Ray Sturgill II; three children, Jillian Sturgill, Averie Sturgill and Brayden Sturgill; mother, Lisa Lee Howard Fisher; brother, Chad Fisher; in-laws, Rufus and Ann Sturgill; sisters-in-laws, Jessica Fox and Jennifer Sturgill; lifelong best friend, Chrissy Grigsby; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date and time.
