Samuel Steve Maggard, Sr. 65, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.

He was a devoted husband, father and brother. He was of Pentecostal faith and a retired coal miner. When he was younger, Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding four wheelers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Gertrude Maggard; two sisters, Dorothy Matthews and Jeanie Vanover.

Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Kay Maggard; two sons, Samuel Steve Maggard, Jr. and Nicholas Maggard; three sisters, Ruby Freeman, Delores Freeman and husband Coy and Patsy Motz and husband Terry and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Sam Maggard, Sr., will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Wise, VA with Pastor Jerry Collier officiating. Burial will follow in the Addington-Hensley Cemetery, Wise, VA. Family will receive friends 12:30 P.M. till time of services at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at the Sturgill Funeral Home Wise, VA.
