Sally
Cantrell
d. Mar 28, 2025
POUND, VA. MARCH 30, 2025
Mary Lynn "Sally" Cantrell began her new life in Heaven on March 28, 2025, at the age of 78. She was welcomed Home by her daughter, Donna Cantrell; parents, Earl and Jessie Slemp; and many other family and friends.
Sally was a Christian and was a member of Indian Creek Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed her role as a pastor's wife for 45 years and was involved in every aspect of the church. She was a member of the Yorkshire Gospelaires and considered them family. She lived each day of her life as an example of her faith.
She was a hard worker in everything she did. She was a retired bus driver and worked in both Stafford and Wise Counties. When she wasn't outside weed-eating or working in the garden, she could be found making sure everyone was taken care of and that they had enough to eat.
Sally was one of 15 children and loved being a member of her large family. Together with her husband, Joel, Sally built a beautiful, enduring love and a close-knit family. She loved being Mommy to her three girls, and was so proud of each of them. One of her favorite titles was being Mamaw Sally to her two grandsons. She was always ready to be a part of anything they wanted to do. She loved to travel to their events and spend time with them whenever she could.
Sally had a fierce heart for her family, her church, and her friends. She loved deeply and did nothing in half-measures. She enjoyed playing a late-night game of cards, taking trips to Belk, and singing. To be loved by Sally was a true blessing, and while we know she is "Gone Home," we will miss her dearly until we are with her again.
Sally is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joel Cantrell of Pound, VA; daughters, Becke Elkins (Jimmy) of Wise, VA, and Karen Cantrell of Stone Mountain, GA; grandsons Ethan Elkins (Lily) of Johnson City, TN, and Noah Elkins of Wise; sisters Judy Cantrell of Wytheville, VA, Eva Jo (Paul) Robinson of Morristown, TN, and Pasty (Arnold) Baker, of Wise, VA; brother Jimmy Slemp (Audrey) of Pound, VA; and a host of other family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregiver, Sabrina Deel, and Caris Hospice Team.
