Russell Stapleton, 98, passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Waters of Clinton Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Clinton, TN.

Russell was born and raised in Esserville, VA and lived in various places including Norton Carolina, Maine and TN where he worked. Russell proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII on two ships, DE 150 and APD 107. Following the Navy, he had various occupations over his extended life but was a pipe fitter for Eastman for many years. Russell loved hunting, fishing and lived his life to the fullest. He was devoted to his little companion Angel.

Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents, James G. and Maxie Dean Stapleton; his brothers, Otis Stapleton and Clifford Stapleton and sister, Audrey Short.

A very special thank you is extended to all of Russell's caretakers including, Rebecca Boozer, Angie Short and Judy Free from the V.A. who loved Russell as part of their own family and made his advanced years worthwhile.

Funeral services for Russell Stapleton will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, Va with Jim Smith officiating and with Military Honors to be held at funeral home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. till time of services at 10:30 A.M. Monday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, Va.  Russell will be laid to rest beside his loving wife at the Wells Cemetery in Esserville, VA. following services.
