POUND, VA.                                       JANUARY 4, 2023

Russell Ray Holmes, 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at his home.

He was of the Old Regular Baptist faith and a retired fuel truck driver from Knox & Sons Oil Co. with over 50 years of service.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Delmes and Lakie Holmes; sister, Drema Tomko; infant brothers, Jimmy Darrell and Billy Don Holmes and a granddaughter, Chrissy.

Surviving are his daughter, Lisa Owens and husband Mike of Pound, VA; son, Steve Holmes and wife Cindy of Big Stone Gap, VA; sisters, Shirley Absher, Sue Blackwell, June Dean all of Norton, VA and Sharon Broyles and husband Dave of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Mike Holmes and wife Dorinda of Pound, VA and Roy Holmes of Wise, VA; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; two very special friends, Barbara Weimer of TN and Danny Baker of Pound, VA and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside Committal Services for Ray Holmes will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Baker Cemetery in Pound, VA with Elder Danny Baker officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:30 P.M. at Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA to go to the cemetery in procession.
