Ronald Dale Gilliam, 69, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Norton Community Hospital. He was born and raised in Wise, Va but lived a large part of his life in South Carolina before moving back to the family’s home place in the Hurricane. A bricklayer by trade, he began hunting and fishing at an early age and could always be found with deer meat in his freezer until he was no longer able to hunt.

He was preceded in death by his wife Teresa Powers Gilliam, his daughter Tesa Inez Gilliam, his parents James Harrison Gilliam and Audrey Jacqueline Hopkins Gilliam, Siblings Michael Edward Gilliam, Daniel Burton Gilliam, Melinda Gail Stevens, and Dennis James Gilliam and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Surviving are his son, Eric Solomon Gilliam, 6 grandchildren, Markeice Gilliam, Elijah (EJ) Gilliam, Chloey Gilliam Maddox, Matthew Gilliam, Hannah Gilliam, and Emily Gilliam. Siblings Gary Gray Gilliam (Tracey), Douglas Ray Gilliam (Kyle), Sonia Faye Salyer (Gary), Allen Lee Gilliam, Terrance Dwayne Gilliam, Regina Ann Traber, and Aunt Greta Hopkins Davidson and many nephews and nieces.

Ronnie was a tough old bird. Survived more ailments than any 5 people ever encounter in a lifetime. He was loved dearly by his family and we’ll miss him always.
