Roger Carson Woods, 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Roger proudly served his country as a United States Army Veteran during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he spent 35 years working as a heavy equipment mechanic at Humphrey's. He was also a passionate car enthusiast, dedicating countless hours to restoring classic cars and tackling any project he could find. Roger was known for his relaxed, unhurried demeanor, but when it came to the racetrack, he was a force to be reckoned with. Although not the fastest talker or mover, he had a competitive spirit and enjoyed the thrill of drag racing. His beloved garage in Coeburn was a place where he worked and played side by side with friends, sharing his knowledge and love for mechanics.

Roger's greatest joy was his family. He shared 37 years of marriage with his wife, Sandy Woods, and together they raised two daughters, Christiana and Angie. He was also devoted to his pet, Gracie, who was a constant companion. While Roger was a man of few words, his quiet nature was complemented by the love he showed to those closest to him, as well as the skill he demonstrated in his work and hobbies.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bessie Woods, and his sister, Linda Ann Woods.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Woods; daughters Christiana Robinette (Christopher) and Angie Bishop (Gregory); and grandchildren Brooke Robinette, Braxton Bishop (Hannah), Olivia Milam, Mia Bishop, and Cole Milam. He also leaves behind his siblings: Betty Robinette (Randy), Wanda Mullins (Johnny), Virginia Barker, and Mike Woods (Pauline). Roger was especially close to his friends Wayne and Denny Yeary, who were like family to him.

A celebration of Roger's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA, where friends and family can gather to honor and remember him. Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. till time of services at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA.
