Roger Wayne Meade, 80, affectionately known as "Rara" to his family and friends, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.  After his retirement from Humphrey's Enterprises, where he worked as a diesel mechanic, Rara enjoyed spending time with his devoted family and reading from his extensive library of books.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel and Lora Meade; four brothers, Edward, Larry, Samuel, and Michael Meade; and three sisters, June Meade, Margie Carty, and Shelvie Nickles.

Surviving are his loving daughter, Charity Dewey and husband, Sean, of Winchester, VA, and precious granddaughter, Mia Kaelyn Dewey; brothers Donnie R. Meade and Danny L. Meade of Coeburn, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 5, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Sturgill Funeral Home, 310 6th ST NW, Coeburn, VA. Memorial Service will follow with Military Rites by the Local VFW and Virginia National Guard Honor Team, and Rev. Alvin Meade officiating and a private graveside service will be conducted at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA.
