Obituary

WISE, VA                                     FEBRUARY 3, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Robert (Bobby) Eugene Harless on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Johnson City Memorial Hospital.

If you knew Bobby, you loved him for his carefree, generous boisterous spirit and beautiful laugh. He loved life and lived it well.

Bobby was raised in Lee County Virginia and was a 1971 graduate of Dryden High School where he was a proud Crusader playing on the basketball and baseball teams. Bobby grew up learning hard work ethics and love of family. He moved around a lot during his career with Verizon Communications where he worked in Pennington Gap, Roanoke, Alexandria and Winchester, Va then moving to finish his career in Winterhaven, Fl before retiring and moving back home to be near his family where he lived in Wise, Va for the past several years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Deborah Wright, second wife Mary Fran Harless and parents Allie (Mamaw) Harless and Phillip Harless; two brothers. W.D. (Evelyn) Harless and James (Frank) Harless; three sisters, Viola (Elmer) Robinette, Lana Pardon, and Betty (Harold) Ely.

Left to cherish his memory are his fiancé, Pauline Stanley of the home, his daughter Kelly Jean Harless and son Phillip Edward Harless both of Roanoke; three grandchildren: Dominic Tanner Likens, Aubree McKenna Likens and Justine Grace Harless; one great-grandson, Keegan Dominic Talley;  his sister, who he often called his second mom, Ona (Hubert) Ely, and brother, George (Sue) Smith and many nieces, nephews, and cousins too numerous to mention. He also left behind numerous friends and extended family.

At his request there will be no formal service.
