FORT BLACKMORE, VA                                                                       AUGUST 5, 2025

Phillip Lynn Gilliam, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at his home.

Born in 1947, he was the son of the late Fred Darrel Gilliam and Virginia Imogene (Adams) Gilliam.

Phil moved to Wise, Virginia, when he was two years old. He graduated from J. J. Kelly High School where he loved to play football. He later lived in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Phil worked with his father in construction from an early age, building houses and apartments. He was last employed by Lauren Engineers and Constructors before retiring after 32 years of employment.

Phil traveled extensively across the United States with his job and to other various countries on mission trips. He enjoyed riding horses, farming, spending time with his dogs and loved reading.

In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his siblings, Darrel Lee Gilliam and Patricia Ann Osborne; and his very best friend, Dennis Mullins.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Norma (Duty) Gilliam; daughter, Angela D'Lynn Brady and two grandsons, John Phillip Denner and Ethan Dorton Brady, all of Gray, Tennessee; three brothers-in-law: Richard Duty and Randall (Cheryl) Duty of Bee, Virginia and Rodney (Brenda) Duty of Vansant, Virginia; special friends, John Puckett, John McCain, Randy Mullins and Mike Mullins; and Numerous nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Abigail Farmer and the staff at Clinch River Clinic.

Funeral services for Phillip Gilliam will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Robbie Dockery officiating. Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. till time of services at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA.
