Philip John Nixon Sr. of Coeburn, Virginia, was on this Earth for 80 years and departed on November 15, 2024. Philip was born in Hatfield-Herts, England to Erskin and Marjorie (Osbond) Nixon. After 25 years at Stoney Gap Coal Mines, Philip retired to enjoy watching westerns, football, and spending time with his family. Philip was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeremy Nixon, and a niece, Elizabeth Nixon.

Philip is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Nixon; son, John Nixon; stepsons, Wes Needham (Amber Senter), Toby (Candi) Needham, and TJ Needham; brother, Roy (Melinda) Nixon, sister, Anna Lou (Bobby) Rose; step-grandchildren, Sydney (Zachary) Barnette, Luke Needham, Stephanie Needham and Sofie McAfee; two step-great-grandchildren, Mason and Brady Barnette; beloved fur baby, Thor; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

It was Philip's wish to be cremated. Family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church 701 Front Street East Coeburn, Va. 24230 on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 5pm, followed by a memorial service officiated by Bobby Rose at 6pm.
