Nona McElyea 82, from Coeburn, VA. Peacefully stepped into eternity on October 29th, 2026, surrounded by her family. To know Nona was to love her, she always showed loving kindness and would lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. Nona worked as a hairdresser for more than 50 years. She loved fishing, baking, and gardening. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Nona loved to travel with their group “The Son Lights” to sing at different churches. Shining her light for Jesus. As a mother, grandmother and great grandmother & God mother. She attended every ball game, cheer and pageant and was always their biggest fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Johnnie McElyea, parents Gilford & Lottie Mullins, Son Kevin Taylor, 2 sisters Shirley Mullins & Jenny Rush, 1 brother Terry Mullins, 1 niece Stephanie Mullins, 1 nephew Jonah McElyea, & 2 great grandchildren.

To say she will be missed doesn’t express how we feel. She leaves behind, 1 sister Judy Mullins, 2 daughters Missy (Buck) Moore, Tonya (Vincent) Kilgore, 2 grandsons Andrew (Liz) McClellan, Jonathan Slone (Desa Righter), 3 granddaughters Ariel Slone (Larry Meadows), Molly (AJ) Harvey, Emily McClellan, and 1 God daughter Jessica (Jared) Pace. 4 great grandchildren Jeremiah & Aliyah Phillips, Addi & Conner Harvey and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Who she loved beyond measure.

Service will be Sunday November 1st, 2026, at Sturgill Funeral Home in Coeburn, VA. Receiving family and friends from 5pm to 7pm, with funeral following at 7pm. Graveside services with be on Monday November 2nd, 2026, leaving funeral home at 10:30am to take her to her final resting place at Temple Hill in Castlewood, VA with services beginning there at 11am.
