NORTON, VA.                             DECEMBER 22, 2022

Nixola "Nickey" (Parrott) Johnson, 86, passed away in her sleep on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Lee Health and Rehab in Pennington Gap, VA. She died due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease.

Nickey was born in Wise, VA, to Paul and Hattie Parrott. The eldest of four siblings, Nickey enjoyed spending time with her uncles and cousins, beating her friends in games of marbles, and generally getting into mischief. As a teenager, Nickey participated in and won, a beauty pageant at the Union Hall on Guest River. She bragged about this right up until the day she died.

Nickey married Air Force Korean War veteran and mechanic Joseph K. Johnson on January 24, 1955, in Glamorgan, VA. They would go on to live in Montana and Idaho before settling in Canton, OH where Nickey played in a competitive bowling league, made crafts for her friends and family, and beat everyone in 500 Rummy. Nickey also enjoyed gardening, and once planted seventeen marijuana in her front yard, after buying them under the assumption that they were tomato plants. (Or at least that's the story she told…)

Nickey was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Keith Johnson; father, Paul Marshall Parrott; mother, Hattie Edith (Dean) Parrott; sister, Henrietta (Parrott) Leonard; sister, Ellen Louise Parrott; niece, Diana L. Leonard and a beloved, cranky poodle, Napolean Bonaparte.

Nickey is survived by a sister, Maxine (Parrott) Cooper & her husband Hugh of Columbus, GA; niece, Sherry (Cooper) Darnstaedt and her husband Steve of Savannah, GA; great-niece, Samantha Mattern of Seattle, WA; niece, Deborah (Leonard) Liles (Thomas); nephew, Kenneth P. Leonard (Karen); niece, Donna (Leonard) Omernik (Gregory) and nephew David N. Leonard.

A service will be held at a later date. Nickey will be buried next to her husband, Joe, in the Gray Cemetery in Norton, VA.
