Mary Ellen Deel, 84, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024, from her Silver Bluff Grove Senior Living residence with her children by her side.

She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her Lord Jesus.  Always caring for others.  Always ready to open her home to friends and family.  Known for her smile that brought joy to others.  Enjoyed working with her flowers and listening to country music especially country gospel.

She was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Stella Mullins Phipps.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Deel, siblings Bertha Phipps Mullins, Clifford Phipps, Elmira Phipps Smith, Irene Phipps Haynes, Lorena Phipps Crawford, Avery Phipps, Ronald Phipps, Chester Phipps, James Phipps, Sylvester Phipps, and Vernon Phipps.

She is survived by daughter Debra Turner and husband Terry; son, Doug Deel and wife Shelby; seven grandchildren, James Justin Turner, Tara Turner, Anthony Cox and wife Cryssie, Megan Deel, Melinda Deel, Andy Deel, and Makayla Deel; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Turner, Austin Cox, and Abel Cox; twin sister Martha Musick; three brothers, Lester Phipps, Kyle Phipps, and Paul Phipps and wife Faye;  in-laws, Shelia Phipps, Katherine Phipps, Ruby Phipps, Betty McReynolds, Landon Deel and wife Jean, Vernie Bise and husband James; a host of nephews and nieces; and her special friends and loving staff at Silver Bluff Grove Senior Living.

The family will receive friends 2-3 PM Sunday, July 28th, 2024, at Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, VA.  Funeral Service will follow in the chapel with Pastor Marty Puckett officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenwood Acres Cemetery Coeburn, VA.
