Mary Lucille Yates Cornett, 96, departed this life and went home to be with Jesus on Friday, May 31, 2024.

Lucille was born in Yates Holler, Duncan Gap, VA to Hugo and Stella Yates. She married the love of her life, Ernest Cornett.

She resided in Richmond, KY with son, Lindsey and Daughter-In-Law Darlene.

She was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and always testified to everyone she spoke to about Jesus. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a wonderful homemaker, cook, and had a love for craft making and quilting. She loved music and was a wonderful singer. Lucille was a member of the Newport City Church of God, Newport, KY since 1955.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents, Hugo and Stella Yates; two half-sisters, Beatrice and Reba; two half-brothers, Kelly Jr. and Kerman Mullins; three sisters, Ova, Josephine, and Violet; two brothers, Bernard and Eugene; and one granddaughter, Dene Cornett.

She is survived by one sister, Reda "Nell" Brown (Robert) of Catlett, VA; two sons, Kenneth Darrel (JoAnn) Cornett of Cold Spring, KY and Lindsey (Darlene) Cornett of Richmond, KY; one granddaughter, Lea Sebastian of Alexandria, KY, two grandsons, Matthew (Kerin) Cornett of Princeton, NC and Jonathan (Jennifer) Cornett of Cleveland, TN; four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Eli, Caleb and Lucas Cornett; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. till 12:00 noon Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. A Celebration of Life will follow with Minister's leading Worship, her Pastor Rusty Woolum and Pastor Matthew Cornett. Burial will follow in the Round Top Cemetery in Duncan Gap.
