Obituary

Wise, Virginia                                                       May 28, 2025

Lynda Riggs Poston passed away May 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Frances and the late Jim Riggs, "Big Daddy." She graduated from J.J. Kelly High School in 1961. In 1974, Lynda married her husband of 50 years, Arthur "Pedie" Poston. Together, they raised four girls who would later bless them with nine grandchildren, who would call her "Nanny." Nanny was the matriarch and the glue that held everyone together. She was your phone call when you needed help, as she had all the answers. She bought every one of her grandchildren their "coming home" from the hospital outfit, and she would be the late-night phone call her daughters made when their babies were sick. Lynda was the definition of "feisty" and was the person who would call you by your full name if she thought you were up to no good. Common phrases such as "kiss my grits" and "for heaven's sake" were repeated at her home. She was an avid reader and probably read every book at the library. She loved to do crosswords with her morning coffee and could have won Jeopardy on many occasions. She was so proud of all her grandchildren's achievements and would ensure she witnessed them. Nanny will be genuinely missed by her family and all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her father, James "Jim" Riggs; her sister, Janice Riggs; her brother, James "Jimmie" Riggs; her daughter, Cindy Collier; and her son-in-law, Rick Fleming. She leaves behind her husband Arthur "Pedie" Poston, her mother Frances Riggs, her daughters Janis (Dave) Tester of Fishers, IN, Dana Fleming (Brandon Bolling) of Norton, VA, Rebecca (Chad) Williams of Wise, VA; nine grandchildren Jenny Tester of Rye, NY, Danny Tester of Fishers, IN, Dean (Adriana) Tester of Seattle, WA, Maggie Buchanan, Sydney (Weston) Mullins, Hannah (Tyler) Kegley, Seth Collier, Emilee Williams, and Sam Williams all of Wise, VA, and 10 great-grandchildren.
