Rev. Lars Colbert Dorton, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2024 after a brief illness.

Lars was ordained in 1977 as a Freewill Baptist minister and pastored 3 churches during his ministry. He was currently the Pastor of Faith Freewill Baptist Church, board member of Harvest Child Care Ministries, volunteer chaplain at Norton Community Hospital, and a member of the SCV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Bell and Masby Dorton; and siblings, Max, Jim, William "Bud", Gaye Fleming, and Gloria Haggett.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Connie Sue Lytle Dorton; sisters, Ruth Johnson and Brenda Sue Branson and husband Tillman; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Rev. Lars Dorton will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Rev. Sean Bailey and Rev. Elmer Boles officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 20, 2024 in the Wise Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 A.M. Monday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
