Larry Charles Salyer of Coeburn, Virginia passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles O. Salyer, Jr. and Bobby Lundy Salyer. Surviving are his wife Donna Salyer; son, Eric Salyer and wife Michelle; one grandson, Thomas Eric Salyer; brother, Monty Salyer and wife Theresa; sisters, Jody Rose and Charlotte Stevens and special companion, Rick Sturgill; nieces and nephews; Brad Rose, Carrie Burke, Chelsea Salyer, and Emily Jenkins; great-nieces and nephews Brady Rose, Logan Rose, Sarah Burke, Adam Burke, and Nora Jenkins.

Larry was a member of the Coeburn United Methodist Church. He graduated from Coeburn High School in 1961 and was a member of the Coeburn High School Class of 1961 Alumni Association. He attended Clinch Valley College and served in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic. He worked for Verizon as an engineer and retired after 33 years of service. Larry served his community for many years by volunteering for the Coeburn Little League as president, member of the Guest River Rally, member of the Coeburn Town Council, and later served as Mayor of the Town of Coeburn.

Throughout his life, Larry was active in running, tennis, and cycling. He loved cycling and he was able to share that with others as he founded the Guest River Rally Bike Ride which drew cyclists from several states. Larry especially enjoyed cycling with his son and grandson. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 7, 2023, 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6 ^th Street NW Coeburn, VA. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel with Pastor Shane Wallace officiating. Military Graveside Services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in Greenwood Acres Cemetery Coeburn, VA. The family and friends will meet at 10:15 A.M. at the funeral home on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
