Larry William Hammonds, 76 years old, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Larry was born in Norton, VA. He graduated from John I Burton High School in 1969. Larry married Phyllis Ann Miller on January 25, 1971.

Larry was Pastor of Wilson's Chapel Church in Norton, VA. He also was an electrician in the mines for Westmoreland, Paramont, and Glamorgan Coal Co.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and restoring old vehicles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maggie Dunavent Hammonds; and his sister, Pearly McArthur.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis Hammonds. He is also survived by his children, Angela (Andy) Robbins, Chris (Tina) Hammonds, Crystal (Lonnie) Caldwell; 6 grandchildren, Cassie Phillips, Kelsey Robbins, Christopher Hammonds, Haley Hammonds, Jonathan Caldwell, Meagan Caldwell; 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Larry Hammonds will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 13, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Rodney Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Family Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. till time of services at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 13, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA.
