WISE, VA                                          NOVEMBER 26, 2025

Larry Richard Cress, 83, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Norton Community Hospital.

He was born in Wise, Virginia to the late Mr. Habern and Mrs. Carrie Holbrook Cress.

He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Zion Family Ministries. He attended faithfully, often arriving an hour before services started.

Larry was a proud U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean conflict. Following his service, he worked as a land surveyor and a highway inspector. For many years he was a loyal member of the Wise Shrine Club, where he participated in many events and drill team competitions.

During his retirement, he could be found at Hillcrest Lanes every Wednesday and Saturday morning rolling strikes. He also enjoyed visiting the flea market and thrift store where he had many friends. Friday was a day for riding on High Knob or some other adventurous route.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his siblings, Carl Cress, Kenneth Cress, Don Cress, Peggy Abernathy, and Banner Cress.

Left to cherish his memories are his siblings, Billy Ray Cress (Debbie) of Wise and Charlotte Collins (Gene) of Roanoke; son, Mike Cress (Karen) of Hartwell, Georgia; and granddaughter, Allison Cress of Nashville, TN.

Funeral Services for Larry Cress will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 1, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Wayne Hager officiating. Military rites will be held at the funeral home and burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. till time of services at 2:00 P.M.
