WISE, VA                                          JANUARY 28, 2026

Judith "Judy" Baker Wright, 84, entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 26, 2026.

She was born in Burdine, Kentucky to Lincoln and Alice Baker.

Judy was of the Baptist Faith and attended church both in Morristown, TN and churches in Wise, VA.

Judy attended Clinch Valley College, then Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg receiving her Bachelors degree in Physics and Math. She received her Masters degree at UVA in Charlottesville. Judy taught at J.J. Kelly then moved to Morristown, TN and taught at Morristown and Walter's State College. She retired and then moved back to Wise, VA.

Judy was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Smith Baker; her father, Lincoln Baker; brother, Marvin Baker; her husband, Robert Leo Wright "Bob"; and son, Robert L. Wright III.

Surviving are her significant other, Bill Wampler, whom she loved dearly; sisters, Daneela Baker of Wise, VA and Kaye Shortt of Pound, VA; brother, Larry Baker of Bozeman, Montana; three nieces, Ginny Bevins of Pound, VA, Alyson Lerma of Nashville, TN and Kimbree Redburn of Bozeman, Montana; three nephews, Joel Baker of Ripley, WV, Andrew Shortt of Pound, VA and Bryce Baker of Kalispell, Montana; a very special aunt, Dorcas Carr, who was like a sister and loved dearly; several great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank Judy's caregivers David and Marsha Steele and Alana Wampler for their love and care.

Funeral services for Judy Wright will be conducted at 12:00 PM. Monday, February 2, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Gary Maggard officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. till time of services at 12:00 P.M. Monday, February 2, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in the Hamblen Memory Gardens, 5421 E Andrew Johnson Hwy, Russellville, TN 37860. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery on Tuesday.
