John H. Wright, 89, passed away Tuesday July 22, 2025, near his home in Coeburn, VA.

He was born in Bristol, VA.  He spent more than 40 years in banking, finishing his career at Miner's Exchange Bank in Coeburn.  He was a lifelong United Methodist serving in many local, district and conference capacities and a current member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Wise, VA.  Gregarious and interested in people and flowers in equal measure, John served and held offices in too many civic organizations to name, but in later years included Kiwanis, Coeburn Improvement Association, the board of Lay's Hardware and Pro-Art Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mildred Wright (Bristol, VA) and his siblings Naomi Pendergrass and Jim Wright of Bristol, and Pat Thomas of Cleveland, TN.  Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Annie Wright, as well as his children John (Krista) Wright of Indianapolis, IN, Missy Wright of Johnson City, TN and Marla Wright-Evans (Barry Evans) of Winston Salem, NC., also surviving his grandchildren, Ian Clarke and Charlotte Evans.  He is also survived by his siblings and in-laws Larry (Lois) Wright of Blountville, TN, Danny (Tina) Wright of Blountville, TN, and Betty Jo Wright of Bristol, VA, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 25, 2025, 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, VA. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel with Pastor Phillip Bates and Ian Clarke officiating. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11 A.M. at the Mountain View Cemetery 1019 Valley Drive Bristol, VA. 24201. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 A.M. for the services.
