Obituary

WISE, VA                                           DECEMBER 31, 2025

Joe Preston Hamilton, 71, passed away peacefully sleeping at home on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

Joe was born at old St. Mary's Hospital in Norton, VA. He was the son of Charles Alfred Hamilton Sr and Marion Virginia Hamilton (Belcher) both of Wise, VA. He was one of eight children and always his mother's "baby boy".

He attended J.J. Kelly High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army.

Joe was a "Joe" of all trades. Being a self-employed carpenter, he could do anything from building a home, mining coal or the simplest task of making you smile.

Joe has been with the love of his life and best friend, Sharlene Ann Hamilton, for 46 years. Together they built a family, a life, and some great memories.

Joe has three children Joseph, Jessi (his baby girl) and Jon. He was also the proud Grandfather of Karly, Kingston, Trinity, Kamiya, and Legend.

Joe was a Harley Davidson enthusiast, always having a motorcycle as far back as he could hold one up. To be on the open road with the wind in his hair, hand on Sharlene's leg, and the sound of a Harley engine roaring were some of his priceless memories of life. He treasured the moments with his Grandbabies always instilling the knowledge that can't be taught from a book and only he knew. He loved his dogs, every single one of them, probably more than he did most people. Joe was loyal to his family with no regret, very blunt with all people, and honest even if it hurt.

He is proceeded in death by his daddy, Charles Alfred Hamilton Sr; mother, Marion Virginia Hamilton (Belcher); his paternal grandparents, Jessie Patton Hamilton and Rose Anne Hamilton; and maternal grandparents, William Belcher and Ollie May Moore.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharlene Ann Hamilton; three children, Joseph Hamilton, Jessica Hamilton-Stanley (Tommy) and Jonathan Hamilton; five grandchildren, Karly Ann Hamilton (Anna), Kingston James Stanley, Kamiya Mariam Stanley, Legend Hamilton Stanley, and Trinity Hamilton; a very special brother, Charles Alfred Hamilton Jr, that he valued time with and always wanting more of; and a host of other relatives and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date per Joes request. Please visit www.sturgillfuneral.com to leave online condolences for the family.

Sturgill Funeral Home 1621 Norton Road SW Wise, VA 24293 is in charge of arrangements.
