James Estil Hale, Jr. died peacefully with his family by his side to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the age of 92.   He has been reunited with his soulmate and wife of 61 years, Bonnie Hale and their dog, Katie.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Estil and Maggie Hale, two brothers, Ishmael Hale, Rufus Hale, four sisters, Juanita Hale, Rita Large, Romeda Salyers, and Ruby Stanley.

Surviving is his daughter, Rhonda Maddox (David), two granddaughters, Michaela Maddox, Lauren Dermott (Mason), a great granddaughter due in July, and several nieces and nephews.

He was of the Christian faith and knew the Bible like the back of his hand. His favorite thing about The Lord is His grace. His favorite book of the Bible was Acts. His guidance to his family was to "study the Bible," not read it.

He had an exemplary work ethic and had a 40-year career in the mining industry and another 15 years with Wise County. He loved Hardee's biscuits, taking naps, being outdoors, going to flea markets with Bonnie, and spending time with Katie and his grandchildren. He always had time to stop and greet a friend and had a very loving and giving heart.

He will be dearly missed but will forever be a part of our lives with the legacy he leaves.  He will be remembered for his love of The Lord, his knowledge of the Bible, his strong will, and love for his family.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 27, 2025, 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, Va.
