Inez Mabel Cantrell Gibson, 95, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, September 25, 2025 at the Norton Community Hospital in Norton, VA and is now in her heavenly home.

She was a wonderful mother to her only child, whom she had at the age of 45.

She was a friend to anyone she met, talking and telling stories of the old days. Her mind was sharp up to the end and if anyone wanted to know something, you knew to "ask Mabel".

Most importantly, she was a Christian. She read her bible daily and attended Central Freewill Baptist Church in Norton until her arthritis got so bad she couldn't go anymore.

She is the last of her family and is preceded in death by her parents, Elzie Lee and Matilda Cantrell; husband, Harold Gibson; and brothers, Curtis Cantrell, Otis "Botch" Cantrell, Bernard Cantrell, and Lloyd "Bose" Cantrell.

She is survived by her daughter, Zeni Gibson.

Her daughter would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at Norton Community Hospital for their gracious care of her mother during her final hours.

Funeral services for Inez Gibson 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 28, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Gary Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Levi Cantrell Cemetery in Pound, VA. Family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. till time of services at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 28, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions to be made to Sturgill Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1068 Wise, VA 24293.
