Gary Edgar Winebarger, 77, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in the Norton Community Hospital Norton, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior & Tessie Hale Winebarger. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving in the US Army a recipient of the Purple Heart. A Retired Coal Miner for 41 years last employed by Southern Coal.

He was avid Major league Baseball Fan, liked to Fish and have a garden and take walks with his wife.

Surviving is his wife, Betty Sue Winebarger; a daughter, Melissa Smith; step daughter, Lynne (Joey) Maggard; three stepsons, Brian Short, Michael (Bridget) Phillips, and David (Suprena) Phillips; four brothers, Garness (Barbie) Winebarger, Gene Winebarger, Eddie (Linda) Winebarger, Ernie (Kay) Winebarger; four sisters, Darlene Roberts, Daphne (Junior) Hamilton, Cheryl Hamilton, and Dawn Hamilton; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 14, 2026, 12 P.M. to 1 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn. Funeral Services will follow with Pastor David Phillips and Pastor Larry Epperson officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Big Stone Gap, Virginia with Military Honors from the Local VFW and DAV Members and the Virginia National Guard Honor Team.
