Gary Lee Hash, 78, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Kentucky.

He was a child of God and was an outdoors man that loved camping, hunting and his horses.

He was loving, funny, and quick witted, always having a joke, and the nieces and nephews referred to him as "their G.I. Joe".

He was a graduate of J.J. Kelly High School, International Brother Hood of Kingsport, Co-owner of H&H Coal Company, later owner and operator of Gary Hash Excavating doing work for DMME and Paramount Coal Company.

He was blessed with many family and friends that loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Jerome Hash; brother, Kenneth Ray Hash and spouse Lou Jean Hash.

Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Brenda Steffey Hash; his mother, Juanita Robinette Hash; nephew, Jarrod (Celeste) Hash; four aunts, Janice Pannel, Loretta Gardner, Nancy Vaughn, and Rhenda Salyers; special cousin, Joe Ann Rose; special friend, Jerry Kilgore; and host of cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services for Gary Lee Hash will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Darrell Bolling officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. till time of services at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for services.
