Frances Emmogene Sturgill Addington, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 26, 2026, peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Frances was born in Wise, VA, the daughter of the late Leonard and Vonda Collins Sturgill.

Frances lived a life defined by service and devotion. Throughout her many years as a cosmetologist in Coeburn, Virginia, she offered far more than professional skills; she provided comfort, companionship, and a listening ear. Her clients became dear friends, and the relationships she built in that small community remained among her most treasured bonds.

A graduate of Virginia Intermont College, Frances balanced her lifelong vocation in cosmetology with dedicated service to the Wise County Redevelopment and Housing Authority, where she retired in 2012. She took great pride in her work there and carried with her warm, enduring memories of the camaraderie she shared with her colleagues - friendships marked by mutual respect, laughter, and genuine affection.

Frances was of the Baptist faith and carried a quiet, steady sense of faith throughout her life. Her devotion was steady and sincere, expressed not in words but in the way she moved through the world – faithful and dependable.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Angela Addington; brothers, Carrol, Johnny, and Gary Sturgill; and sisters, Leona Shortt, Delores Mullins, Mary Lou Rogers, and Patricia Webb.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Greg (Tina) and Brandon (Leslie); grandchildren, Beth (Darren), Andrea, and Brayden; great-grandchildren, Julie and Emma; bonus grandchildren, Jordan, Zach and Dominque; several bonus great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Roberts; sister-in-law, Janet Sturgill; brother-in-law, Jack (J.D.) Rogers; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the care team and administration of Heritage Hall in Wise, as well as MSA Home Health and Anita, for the kindness, attentiveness, and support shown throughout Frances’s time in your care.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a meal be donated to a family in need, as Frances so often did when someone experienced a loss. Extending kindness in this way is a tribute to her servant’s heart and the compassion she shared throughout her life toward others.

Funeral services for Frances Addington will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Marty Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the Boggs Family Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. till time of services at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA.
