Fannie Steele (Mother), 87, went to her heavenly home peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Friday, March 4, 2022.

Fannie was born in Wise Virginia. She was raised in Duncan Gap by her loving parents Hector and Virgie Lane.
She was a devoted member of Church of Christ and a strong woman of faith. She also served as a member of Wise County Historical Society and dedicated many of her years preserving history.

Fannie was a writer, a researcher, a poet and dedicated historian. She wrote two genealogy books, a collection of poetry, short stories, and countless memories of days gone by.

Preceding her in Death are her husband, Letcher Steele; daughter, Roxy Steele; grandson, Timothy Steele; 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Surviving are six children; Neil Steele and wife Bobbie Steele, Shelia Steele Osborne and husband Darrell Osborne, Randy Steele and wife Sally Steele, Jeanie Steele Boles and husband Fred Boles, Pamela Steele Gilliam and husband Ronnie Gilliam, Wendell Steele and wife Darla Steele; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The Family invites you to join in her Celebration of Life on Tuesday, March 8 ^th , 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Minister Allen Sponaugle officiating. Burial will follow in the Lane Family Cemetery in the Duncan Gap Section of Wise, VA.
