NORTON, VA.                      JANUARY 17, 2023

Elizabeth Jane Yates Sluss, 63, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC.

Liz graduated Pound High School in 1979. She went on to MECC where she received her RN degree and later on obtained her Master's Degree from Chamberlain University. She began her career working nights at Norton Community Hospital while going to MECC during the day. She moved to Detroit, MI for a while and worked at Beaumont Hospital in several departments. She returned to NCH and worked for many years where she found her passion in OB and worked as an OB Mgr. After many years she transferred to Lonesome Pine Hospital as OB Mgr. For the past 5 years she has worked at UNC Clayton & Smithfield Hospital in North Carolina as a nurse manager. Liz was an Adjunct Instructor in OB Nursing at UVA Wise Nursing Program. She enjoyed her time she was able to be an instructor. Liz was a giver and never wanted to receive anything in return.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margret Carroll; father-in-law, George Sluss and special aunt, Alpha Price.

Surviving are her loving husband of 33 years, Bobby; children, Ryan (Justina) Sluss, Emily (Gary Wells) Sluss, Chris Sluss, Caleb Sluss and Dede Sparks; her precious grandchildren, Jase, Tristan, Greyson, Noah, Madalynn, Bentley and Kayleigh; sisters, MaryAnn (Jeff) Keith and Evie (Kent) McGuins; brothers, Wayne Price and Jamie Carroll; nieces, Cheyenne, Rain and Bella; special loving niece, Sarah (Travis) Lane; nephews, Aaron, Austin and Cody; mother-in-law, Mary Sluss; sister-in-law, Charlene Salyers; brother-in-law, Joey (Fran) Sluss; extended special family, Toby Yates, Medina Stanley and George and Jeannie Austin and Dr. Vedha and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Liz Sluss will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Terry Rose officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services for Liz Sluss will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, VA. Burial will follow. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
