Obituary

WISE, VA.                                         FEBRUARY 27, 2024

Edgar Martin Mullins, 87, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, from cancer complications, at his home, with his loving family by his side.

How can you describe such a great man in just a few words? Edgar would share a joke any chance he had and was a friend and father figure to many in the community. Edgar was self-taught in a lot of trades and had mastered many. He was one of the hardest working men any of us have ever known. He was honest to a fault and operated his business with integrity. He'd give the shirt off his back, split wood for somebody in need, and help fix just about anything.

Edgar started working as a small boy and didn't stop until his illness forced him to. In his youth he picked beans by the bushel, cut mining timbers with his brother, worked as a night stocker in a grocery store and with the forest service fighting fires. He worked in the coal industry for years before opening Ed's Small Engine Repair, which he owned and operated for 40 years.

Edgar spent most of his life working, but he typically reserved Sundays to relax. His ideal day would include biscuits and gravy, a church service, spending time with family, napping on the couch, Captain D's, and a drive through the backroads to see the scenery and remanence.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Bertha Mullins, brothers; Quillen and Ross Mullins, Sisters; Edith Beverly, Annis Dale, Zelma Pattillo, and Nancy Mullins.

Edgar is survived by his loving wife and helpmate of 43 years, Jeanne McConnell Mullins; his son, Matthew Mullins (Dana); granddaughters, Savannah and Isabella; his daughter, Sarah Lane (Jarred), and grandson, Benjamin; brothers, Hampton Mullins, Tallmadge, Ohio and Charles Henry (Susie) Mullins of Uniontown, Ohio, and his sister, Grace Allio of Wise. He leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.

Edgar's children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. He never hesitated to share pictures and stories of them with anybody who would listen.

The Facetime, phone calls, cards and visits Edgar received during his illness were a tremendous source of joy, peace and comfort to him. The family would like to thank Norton Community Hospital Inpatient Rehab, Southwest Virginia Cancer Center, Intrepid Home Health, Caris Hospice, and all others that helped in Edgar's medical care. The family would also like to thank the Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church family for all the meals, support and prayers the last few months. We are very grateful for Mt. Olive Church, Ben Shell and other church members for building a wheelchair ramp that enabled Edgar to continue his medical treatments.
