Earl Dale Ball (Poppa Ball), age 98, of Coeburn, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, June 11, 2023. He was a World War II Army veteran, who was severely injured in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of VFW Post 8652, a retired miner and member of the UMWA Local 2274, and a member of the Coeburn Masonic Lodge #97 AF & AM.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Lola Lawson Ball; his parents, Silas William (Sweet) Ball and Delora Broughton Ball; three sisters, Gracie, Marie, and Juanita, and two brothers, Burley Sr, and Silas Jr.
He is survived by his devoted caregivers, beloved daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Ball Austin and Roger Austin; his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Brian Austin (Tonya) and Belisa Austin Santjer (Eric); his special blessings and fishing buddies, his great-grandchildren, Leland, Maliyah, Eli, Jayce, and Laurel; a sister, Hazel Kimbley; the children of his heart, John F. and Martha McCarroll, John C. and Brandy McCarroll, Ian, and Addison, his loving and caring church family at Trinity Life Center; special caregivers Burley Jr and Libby Ball, and great nephew Burley (Tre) Ball III.
Special thanks to the staff of Lonesome Pine Hospital, Norton Community Hospital, and Ridgecrest Manor for their patient and loving care of him. A special recognition to all the staff of First Choice Home Health, especially Jeannette, Tammy, and Kathy, who have brightened his days and made him laugh so often. The family would also like to thank Rick Sturgill of Sturgill Funeral Home for his kindness and professionalism, as well as all who lifted up prayers for Poppa Ball and the family.
Due to extenuating circumstances, a private service will be conducted with immediate family. A celebration of life will be held later this summer.
