Douglas Foy Kern, 87, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, in the Norton Community Hospital Norton, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Foy Bascum & Gurface Buchanan Kern, two sons, Mark Allen Kern, and Douglas James Kern.

Doug was a retired educator and basketball coach, having spent 39 years in the Wise County School System. He was a lifelong member of the MT. Olivet Church in Crab Orchard. He was a talented woodworker and craftsman.

Surviving is his wife, Janice Gayle Kern; daughter, Annette Napier and her husband, Ralph, his daughter-in-law, Betty Kern, grandsons, John Douglas Handshoe, and wife, Susannah, and Jordan Hunter Kern, granddaughters, Danielle Kern, and Leigh Anne Kern, great granddaughter, Kenidi Mullis, and two great grandsons, Memphis Mullis, and Adain Tignor. Two sisters, Peggy Lawson, and Sue Kern. Doug also leaves behind a host of family and friends.

Graveside Service will be conducted 2:30 P.M. Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Greenwood Acres Cemetery Coeburn, VA. with Pastor Johnny Adkins officiating.
