Dorothy “Susie” Jean Sams Sargent, 68, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.

She was of the Christian faith.

She was a CNA for 25 plus years with the majority of those years being at Wise Heritage Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Dorothy Sams; Daughter, Terri Lynn Sams Brickey; son-in-law, Curtis Wayne Brickey; and the father of her children, Ricky Hall Sr. and Sarge Sargent.

Surviving are her children, Ricky Hall (Amanda) of Kingsport, TN, Vicki Hall Gray (Johnathon) of Norton, VA, Melissa Kilgore of Coeburn, VA, and Kody Sargent (Ashley) of Wise, VA; grandchildren, Catlyn Hall (Corey), Nick Hall, Josh Hall, Mikey Brickey, Teddy Brickey, Kenadie Gray, Cameron Gray, Alex Herron, and Bentley Kilgore; greatgrandchildren, Kiley Skeen, Brogan Bradley, and Wrenley Parks; brother, Roger Sams (Jackie) of Norton, VA; sisters, Samantha Sturgill (Richard) of Norton, VA and Veronica Stanley (Charlie) of Coeburn, VA; nieces and nephews, Richard, Logan, Stefan and Kendra; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family would like to personally Thank the entire staff at UVA 5 Central, Dr. Henry and Dr. Yousif, everyone at NCH Med Surg and ICU, and Tiffany and Kristine at JCMC for all of the care Susie has received in the past several months.

Funeral services for Dorothy Sargent will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Jeff Sams and Pastor Greg Sergent officiating. Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. till time of services at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA.
