Donald "Donnie" Edward Lawson, Jr. "Shultz", 74, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024 at the Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Virginia.

Donnie worked at VICC for 20 years, Wise County Sheriff Department and retired from Southwest Regional Jail in 2014.

Shultz was a lifelong member of Wise Fire Department, he was on the HAZMAT Team, was a past member of the Wise Rescue Squad, and he was a Fire instructor and counselor.

Donnie attended Wise Trinity Methodist Church where sang in the choir.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Peggy Lawson; and brother, Billy Wayne Lawson.

Surviving are his brother, Randy B. Lawson and wife Lisa; nephews, Billy W. Lawson and wife Jenna of St. Augustine, FL and Brian Lawson and wife Susan of Boca Raton, FL; niece, Brooke Lawson Barnette and husband Josh of Wise; great-nephews, several cousins and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Donnie Lawson, Jr. "Shultz" will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Adrian Dale officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 15, 2024 in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, VA. Family and friends will meet at 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession. Wise Fire Department will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions to be made to Wise Fire Department, P.O. Box 428 Wise, VA 24293.
