Dewayne Lee Absher, 62, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021 at his home.

He was a retired coal miner from Westmoreland Coal, Derby Mine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie E. Absher and Stella Inez Fogarty Absher; brother, Gary Absher; and sisters, Mary Lawson and Gladys Cantrell.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Absher; daughters, Claudette Rose and husband Lenny of Blountville, TN, Jennie Absher of Kingsport, TN, and Angel Varner and husband Chris of Wise, VA; sons, David Shirks and wife Misty of Dunbar, VA, Jason Shirks and wife Sharon of Coeburn, VA and Skylar Absher, of the home; grandsons, Jonathan Absher, Caleb Carter, Preston Absher, Jacob Shirks, David Shirks and Raylen Shirks; granddaughters, Annastasia Absher, Lara Carter, Kirsten Absher and Karisma Varner; sisters, Nancy Mays, Sharon Ingel and Diane Mays; brother, Lewis Absher; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services for Dewayne Absher will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Appalachia Pentecostal Fellowship Hall, 340 Oak St, Appalachia, VA 24216. The church will be following State mandated social distancing and occupancy. Masks will be required and will not be supplied by the church or the family.
