WISE, VIRGINIA                        March 28, 2026

David Bruce Hampton, Jr.,76, of Wise, VA passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, with his family by his side.

He was born in Norton to David Sr. and Virginia Hampton. He graduated from Coeburn High School. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He devoted more than 40 years to working as a coal miner. He enjoyed racing of all sorts, working on old cars, watching crime shows, and playing on his Xbox. He was known for his tremendous since of humor.

David is survived by his sons Sean Hampton and wife Genie (who he always called "Babydoll") of Wise, son Chad Hampton and wife Kim of Wise, and Matthew Hampton of Big Stone Gap; his daughter, Alexis, of Kingsport; his grandchildren, Olivia, Haley, Evan, Emilee, Lleyton, and Logan; and one great-grandchild, Grady Noah.

The family will have a private visitation at the Sturgill Funeral 1621 Norton Road SW Wise, Va.  Military Honors with Graveside Service will be held at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tn.
