On Friday, December 10, 2021, Danny "Dano" Smith of the Stephens section of Wise entered the gates of Heaven after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Norton, Virginia and was well-known for his love of laughter and joking around, he enjoyed riding horses, fishing, and camping.  Most of all, he loved his family and many friends.

Danny was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert "Wolfie" Smith and Nannie Cleveland Dingus Smith; brothers, Bill Smith, Sidney Smith, Emory Smith and Joe Mark Smith; sisters, Mable Smith, Charlene Smith, Ellen Smith, and Gladys Robinette Boggs.

He is survived by Wanda Vanover, his companion of twenty-two years; his daughters, Lydia Trista Smith and Autumn Rain Smith Sowards; son, Austin Gholson; his step-children, Audi McGraw, Marian McGraw, Timothy McGraw, Andrew McGraw, and Lisa Stanley; fifteen grandchildren including especially, Cloe Greear (Poppy's Girl); four great-grandchildren; his brother Dock Smith of Wise, Virginia, and sisters Alice Smith of Wise, Virginia, Mollie Hiatt of Elwood, Indiana, and Juanita Mullins of Clintwood, Virginia.

Danny's wishes were to be cremated and for no services to be held, as he was overjoyed to soon be in the arms of Jesus Christ, who he had accepted as his Lord and Savior.
