Charlie Fletcher Clay, 99, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, in the Norton Community Hospital Norton, Virginia.

Charlie was the son of the late Elbert Ira William and Julia Anne Lawson Clay. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Whited Clay, and sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Quillin and Billie Jo (Gale) Cox.

Survivors are his son, Phillip (Debbie) Clay, grandsons, Chris (Candace) Clay, Tim (Melanie) Clay, granddaughter, Megan (Justin) Gilley all of Coeburn, VA., and granddaughter, McKenzie (Ben) Yates of Big Stone Gap, VA. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Taylor Clay, Dakota Clay, Hunter Clay, Phillip Clay, Fletcher Clay, Nolan Clay, and Annalynn Clay all of Coeburn, VA.

Charlie was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a retiree of the Norfolk Southern Railway, then a loyal employee of Miners Exchange Bank until age 90.

Charlie was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way of Employees, Coeburn Masonic Lodge # 97 A.F. & A.M., Jericho Shriners, Royal Arch #79, Cyrene Commandry #21, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Eastern Star #153, and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Charlie was an avid sports fan and supporter. Those wishing to honor his life may do so by in Lieu of flowers contribute to Eastside Athletics C/O Eastside High School 314 Schoolhouse Hill Dr. NE Coeburn, VA. 24230.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 13, 2024, 12 P.M. to 1 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, VA. 24230. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel with Pastor Johnny Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Acres Cemetery with Military Rite by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
