Obituary

Galax, VA./Coeburn, VA.                                  October 17, 2022

Charles Thomas Webster III or "Bucky" as he was known to others, passed away at his home in Galax, Virginia during the early morning hours of Wednesday, 12 October 2022.  Bucky was 32 years old at the time of his demise.  Bucky was born in Baltimore City, Maryland to Wanda Dorsey and Charles T. Webster Jr.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, Bucky became a ward of the state and spent his childhood years in a variety of foster and group homes in Lee County.  During those years, he became known to Gene and Glenda Collins as they provided respite breaks for his foster caregivers.  When Bucky became a legal adult at the age of 18, no identified family could be located to assume responsibility for his care, so Gene and Glenda Collins were appointed co-legal guardians by the court.

Once he became an adult, Bucky spent several years at the Southwest Virginia Training Center in Hillsville, Virginia until that facility was closed by the state.  A private agency, Good Neighbor Homes, began opening group homes in the southwestern part of the state, and after several visits and much deliberation, Bucky became a resident of Crestview Home in Galax, Virginia.  Crestview was a wonderful place and the only "real home" that Bucky had with a large, enclosed back yard.  Bucky loved walking and being outdoors in the sunshine, and that home was perfect for him.  He loved eating, drinking, and playing with his sensory items.  Bucky loved riding in vehicles and taking trips out into the community.  Although he never gained communication skills, his face would glow when he was happy and content and living in that home brought out his best behaviors and expressions.

Bucky is survived by his co-legal guardians, Gene and Glenda Collins of Coeburn, Virginia.  He will be missed by those who knew him, especially his house mates and the staff of Crestview Home.  Margie Bond and her helpers are commended for the personal care and professional caring they provided to Bucky, especially these last few months as his medical condition deteriorated.  If anyone seeing this obituary posting knows Bucky or any of his relatives, please share and spread the word of his passing.  God has called one of his special angels home, and a Celebration of Life ceremony will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, 24 October 2022, at Coeburn First Baptist Church.
