WISE, VA. MAY 20, 2022

Ernest Carl Sturgill, 79, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at his home after a brief illness.
Carl served his country in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. He was aboard the U.S.S. Oxford during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was in 1959 when Carl met the love of his life, Nancy Collier and in 1961, he made her his wife. After settling in Wise in 1971, together they raised five children. He was deeply loved in the community, having spent his career in the auto industry, people came from far and wide just to do business with him.
Carl was the son of the late Roy and Ruth Sturgill of Pound, Virginia; he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Elizabeth; grandson, Jason Renfro; two sisters, Helen Gardner and Hazel BeCraft.
Carl and Nancy shared 61 years of love and laughter. Carl was father to Kim, Kevin (Krystal), Chris, Kelli (Paul), Cari (Jack); he was also Pop to Kayla, Justin, Christopher, Dalton, Nate, Alex and his beloved Jordan! He was extremely proud of all of his children and grandchildren; he was also survived by one brother, Paul Sturgill; two sisters, Anna Hampton and Rita Salyers and a host of other relatives and friends. His precious schnauzer, Molly, will miss their days of rides to see the horses and playing ball.
Family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Wise VA. Memorial services will be private and held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PAWS of Southwest Virginia - P.O. Box 576, Coeburn, Virginia 24230.
