Bud Freeman, 82, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bud was born in Wise, Virginia, where he spent his formative years. He went on to attend high school at J.J. Kelly and later became a successful Carman at Norfolk Southern Railway. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. But more than anything, Bud was a devoted father.

He loved spending time with his children, Melanie and Chad, sharing his wisdom, creating special memories, and instilling his passion and faith. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. In his free time, Bud enjoyed playing golf, playing the guitar and singing, and tinkering around the house; he was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.  His love for singing gospel was admired by anyone lucky enough to have heard him.

Bud is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Freeman; his children, Melanie Waterhouse and husband David and Chad Freeman and wife Candace; his grandson, Brett Freeman and wife Annie; his great grandson, Calvin Freeman; and his brothers, Conley Darrell Freeman and Ricky Wayne Gilliam. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Funeral services for Bud Freeman will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastors Tom Renfro, Robert Fultz, Jr. and Scott Addison officiating. Burial will follow in the Hubbard Family Cemetery in Wise, VA. Family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. till time of services at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 349 Norton, VA 24273.
