Bobby Short, 69, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at his home.

He was a member of the New Assembly Pentecostal Church, he was a preacher and a longtime member of the church.

He loved his family, church family and friends.

He worked for Trent Enterprise for three and half years. He began his career for Paramount Coal, Motivation, and Alpha. He retired with Alpha 88 Strip finishing his career running a shot dozer with 35 years and 1 month.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing during his spare time.

His family Michelle, Elizabeth and his mother, Geneva was his entire life. When Elisabeth was born his eyes glistened with happiness and blessings.

Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Michelle Short; daughter, Elisabeth Short; father, Allen Short; sisters, Barbara Wallace and Deb Dooley; and nephew, Kenny Rose.

Surviving are his mother, Geneva Short; sister, Rosetta Sexton; brother, Dale Short; nieces and nephews, Renee Wallace, Amanda Wallace, J Rod and Patty Dooley, Nathaniel Dooley, Melanie Dooley, Stephen Rose, Josh Rose, and AC Sexton; great-aunt, Flossie Hackler; special friends in his life, Owen Powers, Sr., Owen Powers, Jr., Kyle Salyers, David Steel and Rick Colley; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Bobby Short will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Owen Powers Sr and Pastor Owen Powers Jr officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, VA. Family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. till time of services at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA.
