It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Gaynell Dotson, a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, who left us peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the age of 78.

Gaynell was the heart and soul of our family. She dedicated her life to the care and happiness of those she loved, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her marriage of 60 years to Joe was a testament to enduring love, commitment and countless cherished memories. As a mother, Gaynell nurtured with tenderness and loved unconditionally. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy.

She was the daughter of William Monte and Betty Ruth Easterling Steele.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Dotson; her children, David Dotson and wife Sharon of Wise, VA, Stacy Shaner and husband Will of Salem, VA and Brigette Jordan and husband Mason of Buchanan, VA; 6 grandchildren, Cory Stepping, Karissa Kelly, Kinzleigh Hill, Katlynn Dotson, Rylee Jordan, and Blaine Shaner; 6 great-grandchildren, Cain Stepping, Aubrey Beverley, Kingsley Kelly, Hayden Kelly, Greyson Hill, and Myla Hamilton; sisters, Charlene Santjer, Marcy Wheeler and her sister friend of 60 years, Connie Boggs; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Betty Gaynell Dotson will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Mason Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Nash Cemetery in Wise, VA. Family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. till time of services at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA.
