NORTON, VA.                                 OCTOBER 4, 2021

Betty Gibson Brooks, 60, of Norton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 1, 2021 with family by her side.

Betty was a Paraprofessional at Norton Elementary and Middle School for 31 years in first grade where she made sure, above all, that the children knew each of them were loved.  She was a feisty woman with a heart of gold.  Unconditionally loving her children and grandchildren.   Letting them know always how proud she was of each of them.  She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister.  She was a lifelong resident of Wise County.  She was a devoted Christian and a member of the Norton Christian Church Family.  She was able to touch the lives of so many through her years of service in the school and through the church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Gibson; mother, Druecilla Gibson; and brother, Bernus Gibson.

Surviving are her husband of 43 wonderful years, Jeff Brooks, who adored her and will love her forever as she loved him; daughter, Diane Brooks and fiance Josh of Wise, VA son, Nathan Brooks and wife Lauren of Wise, VA; sister Peggy Ann Sexton and husband Wilson Kanoy of Lexington Park, MD; brother Ellis Gibson and wife Debbie of Hollywood, MD; grandchildren Isaiah Kinser, Hannah, Kinser, Abigail Kinser, Blake Brooks, and Griffin Brooks; her loving mother-in-law Lorene Brooks of Sandusky, OH; a very special aunt, Hazel Sexton; a host of many other nieces, nephews, family, friends; and her beloved grand dog, Tucker.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Doctor Matthew Wilson for the exceptional care provided during this challenging time.  Pallbearers include Tony Gibson, Randall Sexton, Mark Sexton, Isaiah Kinser, Blake Brooks, and Randy Belcher.  The family will be having a private celebration of life at Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise.
